The NVIDIA MMS1V00-WM transceiver is a single-mode 4-channel (DR4) QSFP-DD optical transceiver, designed for 400 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) links on up to 500m of single-mode fiber.


The transceiver has a standard QSFP-DD connector on the electrical side towards the host system. The optical interface is composed of four optical channels/fibers in each direction, intended for a parallel single-mode optical cable via a standard MPO connector.

Q: Can OSFP ports use modules in QSFP-DD form factor, such as QDD-400G-DR4?
A: OSFP and QSFP-DD are two completely different form factors, so QSFP-DD optical modules like QDD-400G-FR4 QDD-400G-SR8, QDD-400G-LR4 or QDD-400G-DR4 all these optical transceivers cannot be used in OSFP ports.


Q: Can QSFPDD 400G DR4 be interconnected with OSFP 400G DR4?
A: Even though QSFPDD and OSFP have different standards, QDD-400G-DR4 and OSFP-400G-DR4 are still interconnected and they have the same standards on the optical side; this is one way to interconnect NVIDIA CX7 OSFP-packaged 400G NICs with 400G QSFPDD switches.


Q: What kind of patch cables for QSFPDD 400G DR4?
A: The QSFPDD 400G DR4 module's interface needs to be matched with a single-mode 12-core MPO interface, and the fiber connector needs to be an APC port.


Q: Which application scenarios are QSFPDD 400G DR4 generally used in?
A: The QDD-400G-DR4 transceiver is usually used to interconnect a 400G leaf switch with a spine, or a 400G QDD switch with a 100G QSFP28 switch, and as server NICs increase in speed, it can also be used to interconnect a 400G QDD switch with a 400G OSFP/QSFP112 NIC.


Q: Does QSFPDD 400G DR4 support breakout?
A: QSFPDD 400G DR4 is an MPO interface, as long as the device port using the module supports the breakout function, then 400G DR4 can be paired with MPO to LC harness fiber to interconnect with the 100G DR module. This scenario is very common in the connection of 400G QDD switches to 100G QSFP28 switches.
