A: The QSFP28-BIDI-100G transceiver has a duplex LC interface suitable for short distance wiring connections in data centers, with a maximum connection distance of up to 150m; The QSFP-SR4-100G has an MTP interface suitable for short distance cabling connections in data centers, with a maximum connection distance of up to 100m.
If the network requirements are upgraded from the original 10G or 25G to 100G, because 10G or 25G network cabling is mainly based on LC duplex multimode fiber, if you use a conventional 100G QSFP28 SR4 optical module, you need to use MPO 8-core or 12-core multimode fiber. On the basis of the original wiring, major adjustments have been made, and the cost is extremely high. 100G BIDI can effectively save the cost of fiber optic infrastructure and is widely used in the field of data centers.
Q: BiDi and SWDM4 are not the same technology. Can you briefly explain the difference between 100G SWDM4 module and 100G BIDI module, please?
A: SWDM4: Multiplexing 4 different wavelengths (850nm, 880nm, 910nm and 940nm) into a single link, using two parallel fibers (LC interface), 1 transceiver, 1 transmitter, 25G rate per wavelength
BIDI: first combine 4 electrical signals into 2 50G electrical signals, after that convert 2 50G electrical signals into two different wavelengths of 50G optical signals, and finally transmit the different wavelengths of 50G optical signals to one fiber for transmission, through a duplex LC interface fiber patch cable for 100G transmission.
